Week 1
Well, week 1 of training is done. It's not too bad...so far.
Here's my routine:
Mon, Tues, Thurs: up at 5 am, at the Rose Bowl by 5:30. Walk 1/2 mile. Stretch. Run 3.2 miles with 3 one minute walk breaks.
Wednesday is a "cross training day", meaning get your heart rate up, but don't run. This week I did Yoga. Was nice to get stretched out.
Saturday was the 3-mile initial time assessment. I pulled in a time of 27:37, which isn't too bad for a natural sprinter trying to turn cross country.
My eyes have been opened to a new 'community' in Pasadena. The 5:30 am Rose Bowl crowd. It's mainly people who have been doing this for a very long time. Old friends, young friends, some guy walking with a sand wedge. I pass the same people every day, mostly in the same spot, they're starting to say hi. I must be the obvious new guy, what with the mohawk and all.
I'm enjoying running more than I thought. I had thought that if I weren't chasing something (ball, frisbee, my hot wife), it would get boring, guess not.
